Our dedicated team of relationship managers supports the organisations we finance.
To understand more about how this relationship works, we’ve interviewed Jaishree Mistry, a senior relationship manager, to learn more about her expertise in supporting charities, non-profits and community initiatives.
With a mission to support individuals and organisations striving to make a positive impact on the world, Jaishree's journey is a testament to her dedication and commitment to social finance.
How did you come to work for Triodos Bank?
I’ve been working in social finance for over 25 years now, having made the move from commercial banking. I’ve held social investment and lending roles in charities and social banks, so Triodos seemed a natural choice for me with its mission to support individuals and organisations who want to change the world for the better.
I am a firm believer that the conscious use of all our resources, including financial resources, is the only way forward if we want to protect our planet and contribute to creating a kinder, fairer society which respects the needs and aspirations of all, and values the richness and strength diversity brings. Triodos Bank’s mission to ‘change finance’ and ‘finance change’ really resonates with me.
What does a typical day in your role entail?
My portfolio consists of customers with borrowing from £1m to £20m. My role varies day to day, I could be reviewing an existing customer, working on a new proposal, or liaising with lawyers and to complete new loan documentation. Many of my customers operate complex businesses and a significant amount of my time is spent supporting them with a variety of issues ranging from requests for information to more complex financial and legal matters.
Can you share more about some of the projects you’ve been working with?
During the past year, I was supporting one of our customers in the care sector to restructure their business so that it could be sold to an Employee Ownership Trust. The organisation offers person-centred, progressive care for the elderly. The founding directors decided to sell the business to a trust managed for the benefit of all employees. Triodos supported this initiative, which recognises the hard work of employees, and offers them a meaningful stake in the company.
I was also delighted to support SPACE Studios to secure the long-term future of its site in Martello Street, in East London, ensuring that it can continue to provide much needed affordable studio space for artists in the city.
What are the most exciting developments in the areas you’re working in?
All new building developments now have to meet high energy efficiency and sustainability standards and it is encouraging that these considerations are the norm now across all new projects. It is interesting to see how new construction techniques and technology will support the transition to net zero across our lending portfolio.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love vegetarian and vegan cooking. I also enjoy reading and studying ancient Sanskrit tests. On Sundays , I give tours at Bhaktivedanta Manor – a site that was donated to the movement by George Harrison of the Beatles. I take visitors around the temple and estate (which includes a memorial garden to George Harrison) and tell them about the history of the site and discuss Hindu philosophy. There is also a cow sanctuary and organic garden – my personal favourite spots.
