Our positive approach to sustainable lending involves:

identifying sustainable sectors where we can stimulate innovation in business
selecting businesses and projects that will provide real social, cultural or environmental benefits
evaluating both the quality of the application and the motivation of the people applying for loans
ensuring selected projects meet our absolute criteria and minimum standards, which measure their potential effect on people or planet
financing clearly defined activities or projects within each organisation
monitoring closely how a loan is used
publishing the details of every single organisation we lend to; which means our savers and investors can see exactly how we’re using their money

Who won't we lend to?

We won't lend to any organisation that puts profit before people and planet. More specifically, the minimum standards we apply in making lending decisions come under two main headings:

Non-sustainable products and services

This includes all businesses involved in producing or trading in weapons, tobacco, pornography, fur or environmentally hazardous substances. It also covers the fossil fuel and the gambling industry.

Non-sustainable working practices

This covers everything from animal testing and inhumane farming methods, through corruption and support for dictatorial regimes, to breaches of fundamental labour rights.

Triodos Bank UK Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Triodos Bank NV and based in Bristol. Our head office is in Zeist, which is near Utrecht in the Netherlands, and we are established according to Dutch law.

Triodos Bank is structured and managed in a way that aims to safeguard our principles, values and objectives.

Depository receipt holders (DRH)

Since our creation, we have been an independent bank. To ensure the special character and mission of our bank remains protected, our shares are held in a dedicated Foundation, which issues depository receipts to anyone that wishes to buy them. As of 2024, we have over 41,500 depository receipt holders.

SAAT

The Foundation for the Administration of Triodos Bank Shares (SAAT) manages all Triodos Bank NV's shares. To finance the shares, SAAT issues depository receipts. The Board of SAAT, Triodos Bank and its depository receipt holders communicate with, and meet, regularly. This happens informally and formally in meetings like the AGM and in meetings for depository receipt holders in the countries where we are active. Learn more about our governance.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board oversees and reviews the activities and decisions of the Executive Board, the development of Triodos Bank’s operations, strategy development and the bank’s overall mission. The Supervisory Board also provides advice and guidance the Executive Board. The members of the Supervisory Board are independent; from each other, from the Executive Board, and from any other party or interest that might affect the Board's operation.

Jeroen Rijpkema
Chief Executive, Triodos Bank
Jeroen Rijpkema has been a statutory member of the Executive Board of Triodos Bank N.V. since 21 May 2021 and is Chair of this Board. He is also member of the Board of Stichting Triodos Holding. Jeroen is a member of the Board of the Dutch Banking Association. In addition, he is a Board member of Stichting Social Finance NL and Stichting Graaf Carel van Lynden (Keukenhof estate and Dutch bulb flower exhibition).
Jeroen is of Dutch nationality and owns 315 Triodos Bank depository receipts.

Jacco Minnaar has been statutory member of the Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer of Triodos Bank N.V. since 28 September 2021. Prior to this role, Jacco was Managing Director and Chair of the Management Board of Triodos Investment Management and is currently a member of the management board of Hivos Triodos Fund.
Jacco Minnaar is of Dutch nationality and owns 20 Triodos Bank Depository Receipts.
Nico Kronemeijer
Chief Operational Officer
Nico Kronemeijer has been statutory member of the Executive Board and Chief Operational Officer of Triodos Bank N.V. since 28 September 2021. Prior to this role, Nico was Group Director ICT at Triodos Bank since 2013. In addition to this, Nico is member of the Supervisory Board of the Art Centre ‘it Toanhus’ in Friese Meren.
Nico Kronemeijer is of Dutch nationality and owns 7 Triodos Bank Depository Receipts.

Gary Page
Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director
Gary became Chair of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in January 2019 in preparation for it assuming responsibilities for Triodos Bank’s UK activities. Prior to this he was a Member of the Supervisory Board of Triodos Bank N.V., and served on the Audit and Risk Committee, stepping down in May 2019.
Gary’s career has been predominantly in the banking industry. After joining Barclays Bank from University, he held numerous roles over 14 years at ABN AMRO Bank, including Chief Executive Officer of Global Markets and Global Head of Commercial Banking. He briefly joined RBS following its acquisition of ABN AMRO.
Gary has also held positions in the charity and public sectors, including Chair of Trustees for the Hoffmann Foundation for Autism (2010-2016) and Non-Executive Director and subsequently Chair of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (2012-2018), one of the largest mental health trusts in the UK.
Gary's term as Chair of Triodos Bank UK Ltd expires in 2028. He is of British nationality and does not own any Triodos Bank N.V. depository receipts.
Karen Furlong
Independent Non-Executive Director
Karen became Independent Non-Executive Director of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in August 2020. She is an experienced leader with a track record of success over 30 years. Her speciality is in digital transformation, strategy and change management. She has worked in most sectors, but has deep experience in financial services, particularly fintech.
She has significant experience in business transformation and agile delivery and has held various roles in financial services organisations, including board roles within Ireland and the UK. Her professional experience has included working for organisations such as Standard Life, Friends First, Educational Building Society, Cuna Mutual and Allianz Partners as well as NGOs, public sector and central and local government.
Karen is on the board of Progressive Building Society and Chair of AirPOS (a Software as a Service point of sale business). She has an INED position with The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) in Dublin. Karen has served on the board of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and Dublin City University (DCU), as well as Capital Credit Union and Dublin’s Education and Training Board (DDETB). Karen lives in Belfast with her husband and daughter. She is of Irish nationality and does not own any Triodos Bank depository receipts.
Keith Bevan
Independent Non-Executive Director
Keith was appointed Independent Non-Executive Director of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in July 2022.
Keith is Vice Chair and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of South Lakes Housing Association, an organisation working to help solve some of the housing challenges of the southern Lake District. In 2021, he retired as Chief Risk Officer for Furness Building Society and has over 25 years’ previous experience in the life insurance market, with a focus on risk management.
In the last 10 years, Keith has supported a number boards in making financial, risk management and capital management transitions due to regulatory change. He lives in the Lake District, has a keen interest in supporting and improving the natural environment, and is a keen walker and cyclist.
Alessandra Mongiardino
Independent Non-Executive Director
Alessandra became an Independent Non-Executive Director of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in January 2023. She is an accomplished executive and independent Non-executive Director with almost 30 years of international Risk Management experience, having held senior roles in large financial institutions, including NatWest, Nordea and HSBC. She is an expert in delivering high quality, risk based advice, bringing a strategic and holistic approach to risk management. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick and the GARP FRM qualification.
Alessandra is on the board of First Garden Cities Homes, a member of the Financial Services Faculty Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the former Director of Financial and Strategic Risk at NatWest.
Nigel Morrison
Independent Non-Executive Director
Nigel was appointed Independent Non-Executive Director of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in August 2024. He is a qualified accountant and retired as a Partner from Grant Thornton UK LLP at the end of 2023. He brings strategic business experience gained as a Partner, as well as a period as Grant Thornton’s Chief Financial Officer.
Nigel is a former trustee of Avon Wildlife Trust and currently a non-executive director of Dogs Trust and chair of The Grant Thornton Foundation.
Mark Clayton
Executive Director of TBUK Board
Mark Clayton became Executive Director of the Board of Triodos Bank UK Ltd in May 2025. Mark initially joined Triodos Bank UK in January 2024 as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing customer operations, financial crime, large project implementation, procurement, operational resilience, facilities management, and ICT services
Mark brings over 25 years’ experience in the banking sector. Prior to joining Triodos Bank, Mark held several senior positions, including Chief Operating Officer at Unity Trust, where he built his knowledge and experience of values-based banking. Mark also spent 23 years at HSBC, where he held various senior roles and managed large teams within the retail banking division. He served as Head of Premier Distribution, where he led the strategic growth of the Retail Premier and international business.
Mark has a deep commitment to ethical and sustainable banking and is driven by the belief that banking can be a positive force for good.
Sian Williams
Executive Director
Sian joined Triodos Bank UK Ltd in January 2021 as the Chief Risk Officer. Prior to this, Sian had spent 16 years at Lloyds Bank plc in various senior risk and compliance roles, including four years as Risk Director of the bank’s International Wealth business unit.
Sian brings over 20 years' financial risk and regulatory experience, gained working in the private and public sectors, both in the UK and internationally. She holds a Masters in Finance and an Economics degree.
Sarah Morse
Executive Director
Sarah was appointed Chief Finance Officer of Triodos Bank Ltd in December 2022, having initially joined the bank in May 2021 as a consultant and serving as Interim CFO since July 2022. Prior to this, Sarah spent 12 years at Nationwide Building Society in a variety of senior finance and risk roles, including five years leading the stress testing programme and latterly focused on cost optimisation and culture.
Sarah qualified as an accountant in 2003. Having spent an initial two years in public practice, Sarah was quick to realise her skills and aspirations were to be able to provide a more strategic, commercial and involved role. Sarah brings more than 20 years of experience in accounting, finance and prudential risk, gained from across financial services and travel and tourism sectors.
Wibout de Klijne
Non-Executive Director
Wibout de Klijne was appointed as Non-Executive Director on the Triodos Bank UK Board in April 2022. Wibout is currently Director of Compliance for Triodos Bank N.V.
He joined Triodos in September 2019 after a long career at Rabobank. During his career Wibout has held positions in a number of different areas ranging from risk management and security to compliance in both first and second line.

He is a very open and positive person and results driven with a focus on the development of people. He is married with three children and lives in Heusden in the south of the Netherlands.

Mark Clayton

Bevis Watts
Outgoing CEO
Bevis Watts became Chief Executive Officer of Triodos Bank UK Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Triodos Bank N.V., in May 2019. Prior to this he was Managing Director of Triodos Bank UK for three years, having previously been Head of Business Banking at Triodos for almost five years.
During his time as MD, the bank has delivered strong growth, launched a new personal current account and a crowdfunding platform. He has 20 years’ experience in the wider sustainability field across the private, public and voluntary sectors.
Bevis has always worked for values-led organisations, and before Triodos was Chief Executive of Avon Wildlife Trust and Head of Business Support at The Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP). He has held numerous Directorships and Trusteeships and was a Board member of Bristol 2015, the delivery company for Bristol European Green Capital 2015, inaugural Chair of the West of England Nature Partnership, and he was elected to represent Local Nature Partnerships at a national level on the ESI Funds National Growth Board (2013-2015).
Brendan Donnelly
Chief Operating Officer
Brendan was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Triodos Bank UK in April 2025, having initially joined the bank in 2021 as Head of Enterprise Risk and the Executive Team in December 2023 as Springboard Programme Director. He has responsibility for operations and operational resilience, financial crime, large project implementation, facilities management, and ICT services.

Brendan brings 15 years’ experience in the financial services sector. Prior to joining Triodos, Brendan’s career focused on delivering strategic and regulatory transformation for international financial institutions in the UK and across Europe, in both banking roles and as a consultant with a global consultancy Oliver Wyman. At the latter, Brendan spent time leading the development of its pro bono consultancy programme for charities and NGOs, and has a keen interest in how the private sector can effectively deploy resources to support social and environmental benefit.

Roger Hattam
Director Retail Banking
Roger Hattam joined Triodos Bank UK as Director of Retail Banking in September 2022. Roger has over 20 years of commercial experience in retail banking and insurance, including as Commercial and Operations Director at Bradford & Bingley PLC. Prior to joining the bank, he was Managing Director of A.J.Gallagher’s financial and employee communications consultancy. He also brings expertise from the energy sector, gained from leading the consumer division at npower and helping to establish new challenger companies in the UK.
Roger is Chair of the Board of Trustees for Christians Against Poverty, a national debt counselling charity. He has also helped to pioneer the development of low cost solar social enterprise in Africa.
Roger holds the Sustainable Finance qualification from the Cambridge Institute of Sustainable Leadership.
Phillip Bate
Director Business Banking
Phillip Bate is Director of Business Banking at Triodos Bank UK, managing a team of co-workers covering all aspects of lending, corporate finances and lending operations. He first joined the business banking team in 2018 as a Relationship Manager and was most recently the Team Leader for South West and Midlands, before taking on his current position in January 2023. Prior to his roles at Triodos, Phillip worked across finance, risk and business banking departments.
Phillip loves to work with organisations focused on driving positive social and environmental change in the world and, through finance, helping to scale the impact they can have. He is a qualified chartered accountant with Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and a trustee for a Bristol-based charity providing alms housing.
Catherine Ridd
Director HR
Catherine became Director of HR in 2022, having joined Triodos Bank UK in 2019. A qualified employment lawyer, she spent 10 years in private practice before joining TSB Bank as a senior HR lawyer, where she transitioned into a fully HR-focused role. Catherine is passionate about supporting people to explore their potential and fostering an open and inclusive work culture. Her focus at Triodos Bank UK is on delivering our people strategy to support our mission by developing a culture in which every co-worker can thrive personally, whilst supporting our customers to deliver ongoing positive, social and environmental impact.

Catherine is currently studying for an executive coaching qualification and is a mentor with the Women in Banking and Finance programme.
Zoe Ruthven
Director Marketing & Communications
Zoe joined Triodos Bank UK in July 2016, from Bristol City Council, where she headed up the office of the city’s first directly elected mayor, George Ferguson (2012-2016). This included leading the marketing and communications for Bristol’s year as European Green Capital (2015) with a brief to make sustainability mainstream.
She brings over 20 years’ experience in marketing communications to her role as Director of Marketing & Communications, across a range of sectors including financial services, retail, urban regeneration, tourism, sustainability and local government.
Zoe has previously held marketing roles with Lloyds Banking Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM and HBOS Financial Services. She was a founder director of Bristol-based Brandon Hill Communications, an award-winning, integrated agency acquired by Bray Leino in 2009.
Stefan Hargrave
Director Internal Audit TBUK, Head of Internal Audit Group Banking
Stefan joined Triodos in October 2018. He was previously Director of Internal Audit at Bupa, responsible for the transformation of the Internal Audit team within the Group and International Business. In accordance with good governance, Stefan reports directly to the Independent Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee.
Stefan has over 15 years' experience in the financial services sector, with roles in insurance, re-insurance, asset management and payments. He is also an independent voluntary member of the Audit Committee of the Order of St John and St John Ambulance.
