Driven by our dedication to nature restoration, we have committed to providing at least €500 million in investments, loans, and contributions to the nature-based solutions sector by the end of 2030, as part of our biodiversity targets.

In this article, we’ll explore exactly how Triodos’ customers are enabling us to achieve our goals by highlighting key nature-based solutions we’ve been supporting. If you’ve ever wondered how your money is being used while it sits in your savings account or ISA, you’re about to find out.

Avon Needs Trees

Established in 2019, Avon Needs Trees is a Bristol-based charity focused on creating new, permanent woodland through the Bristol-Avon River catchment to help fight climate and ecological emergencies. Its objective is to establish woodlands that endure for generations, serving as vital carbon sinks, enhancing local biodiversity, providing natural flood management, and creating permanent green space for locals to connect with nature. The charity is community driven, with over a thousand local volunteers getting involved with tree planting and aftercare each year. As part of their ‘right intervention, right place’ approach, they also incorporate a mixture of complimentary habitats into their woodlands, such as wildflower meadows, hedgerow, and wetlands into their woodlands to maximise benefits for climate and for nature.

Oxygen Conservation

Founded in June 2021 with the specific aim of tackling climate change and the biodiversity crisis, Oxygen Conservation works to protect and improve natural assets. Its efforts are focused on regenerative agriculture, sustainable development, ecotourism, native broadleaf woodland creation, peatland restoration and, where appropriate, renewable energy regeneration.

Nature Impact

Nature Impact delivers a whole lifecycle solution for developing, managing and reporting natural capital projects, predominantly focused on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). It aims to be a leading natural capital developer, initially focussed on providing high-quality off-site BNG units for London and the Southeast, ensuring the supply of sought-after habitat types in key target locations. Being an early mover in this space, Nature Impact seeks to help the market for investable natural capital projects mature in the UK. This will be achieved through innovative, nature-based and science-backed solutions, with the ultimate goal of restoring biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and unlocking a host of invaluable ecosystem services. Community benefit is also at the heart of the Nature Impact strategy, and there will be new announcements around this soon.

In conclusion, we couldn't support these essential nature restoration projects without the continued backing of our dedicated customers. Triodos savings products play a crucial role in financing sustainability projects, and we are deeply grateful to all our customers for their support.
