We recognised that mobile payments were a priority for our customers, and we’re excited to announce that Apple Pay is now available for the Triodos Personal Current Account.
"Our customers have been asking for mobile payments and not having digital wallet functionality has been cited as a reason not to switch to Triodos. The Triodos team have been working hard behind the scenes to bring mobile payments to our customers, and I am delighted that Apple Pay is now available." Roger Hattam, Director of Retail Banking, Triodos Bank UK.
What does this mean for you?

With Apple Pay, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to make contactless payments in stores. Simply hold your device near the payment terminal and authorise the transaction using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.
Apple Pay also makes online payments faster. Whether you’re shopping online or in app, look for the Apple Pay icon and enjoy secure banking without entering your payment details manually.
If you prefer using your physical debit card, you can continue making payments as usual. Plus, debit cards will still be required for some transactions, for example withdrawing cash from an ATM.
If you don't already have a Triodos Personal Current Account, you can find out more here.
Are mobile payments secure?
Yes – Apple Pay offers the same level of security as using your physical debit card.
As a bank, making sure our customers’ payments are secure was a key focus when introducing Apple Pay. We reviewed its security features to ensure it provides strong protection for both transactions and customer privacy.
Apple Pay processes payments as securely as a physical debit card. Your card details are never directly linked to your Apple Pay account, keeping your information private.
Plus, Apple Pay requires an iPhone, which is usually protected by Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode – adding another layer of security.
"We know the ease and security of Apple Pay is a good thing for our customers and we don't believe that customers should need to choose between good service and banking that aligns with their values. So we're proud to make Apple Pay, a new feature of our Personal Current Account." Roger Hattam, Director of Retail Banking, Triodos Bank UK.
Will other mobile payment options become available?
While Apple Pay is currently available for iPhone and Apple Watch users, we’re working hard to bring mobile payment options to other devices soon. While we don’t have a specific date yet, we are actively working on it. We’ll keep our customers updated as soon as we can share more details.
What’s next for mobile banking?
We’re excited about how mobile banking is transforming the industry and are committed to offering services that combine modern convenience with sustainable values.
"The number of people who bank via our app has grown enormously in recent years. These customers expect a fully-fledged and complete banking app from us, with which they have all banking matters available in their pocket." Mark van den Brandt, Lead Mobile & Internet Banking, Triodos Bank.
Mark recognises that customers expect more and more from the Triodos Mobile Banking App: "because we notice that the app has become the preferred channel for many customers to do their banking, we are working hard to improve and make it more and more possible within our app."
How do I get set up?
If you’ve already got a Triodos Personal Current Account, getting started with Apple Pay is easy.
- Open the Triodos Mobile Banking App on your iPhone:
- Go to More
- Tap Cards
- Tap card you want to view
- Tap Add to Apple Wallet
Here's how to add the Triodos debit card to an Apple Watch:
- Open the Watch App on your iPhone
- Scroll down to Wallet & Apple Pay
- Tap Add next to the Triodos debit card
Your Triodos debit card must be active to be able to use Apple Pay. If you have not yet activated it, you can do this by using your PIN to withdraw cash from an ATM or when making a payment using your physical debit card and PIN. To use Apple Pay you need to have contactless payments enabled for your card which can be found under More > Cards > Contactless payments.
If you remove your Triodos debit card from Apple Pay, you can re-add it at any time by following these same steps.
If you don’t yet have a Triodos Personal Current Account, you can apply for one via the app. It's free to download and available via the App Store.
