Sea Lanes is an ambitious new open water swimming hub on East Brighton’s seafront, including a 50m heated pool that is the UK’s first outdoor swimming training centre.
Created by a group of local businesses and open water swimming enthusiasts, Sea Lanes aims to cater to swimmers of all abilities, increasing participation by overcoming accessibility barriers and ultimately encouraging people to enjoy swimming and live healthier lives.
As well as being home to the National Open Water Swimming Centre of Excellence, the development includes 23 carbon neutral modular units for businesses from the area, such as a bar, coffee shop, yoga studios, health and fitness facilities and retailers that fit with the overall ethos of the project.
Located at the site of the former Peter Pan playground on Madeira Drive, Sea Lanes opened in Spring 2023 and has transformed the area..
“The support we have had from the local community has been overwhelming and we are looking forward to providing the Brighton community with better swimming facilities, jobs and security," explains Joe McNulty, Sea Lanes Brighton director.
Sea Lanes is backed by a £2.5m loan from Triodos Bank UK.
Speaking about the loan, Adam Standley, relationship manager at Triodos Bank, says: “This is a forward thinking, non-standard real estate development with physical wellbeing and environmental sustainability at its heart. It’s a great example of our commitment to providing bespoke financial solutions to businesses that are having a demonstrably positive impact on society and sustainability.”
