This year, Banking on Values Day coincides with the news from Christian Aid that for every £1 invested in renewables, the world is still investing around £3.24 in fossil fuels. Their Big Shift report highlights the crucial role of banks and financial organisations in addressing global climate ambitions and joining efforts in the move toward a low-carbon economy. Unfortunately, the report finds that many banks are still doing too little, and despite increasing investment in renewables more broadly, an over reliance on fossil fuels is still evident. As the report points out, “banks need to act by developing ambitious transition plans now”. You can find out more about their Big Shift campaign on the campaign website.

The Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), of which Triodos Bank is a founding member, is a network of banking leaders from around the world committed to advancing positive change in the banking sector. Over eight years the alliance has grown to now include 46 financial institutions around the world, all working to use their money for positive change in a transparent way.

As a founding member of GABV, Triodos Bank has established itself as a global pioneer in sustainable banking, using the power of finance to support projects that benefit people and the planet. We believe that banking can be a powerful force for good: serving individuals and communities as well as building a more sustainable society.
